I like to buy one special decoration each year to add to the box of treasures that gets unpacked every Christmas I’ve been looking through what’s out there to find ideas for myself, so I thought I’d share my findings with you. Handmade Christmas decorations feel more precious somehow, so I’ve focussed my search on this.

Handmade brass wreaths by Debbie Fairbrass

How stunning are these handcrafted brass wreaths made by Debbie in her Kent studio? I’ve never seen anything else quite like them and they are just so beautiful. I’ve got a bit of thing for brass just now too, so these are definitely high up on my list. Actually, these wreaths could be hung throughout the year, not just at Christmas, so they’re a really great find.
Fused glass tree decoration by Becky of Damson & Stars

I love how Becky works. She starts the process with her own drawings which she then cuts out from copper sheet and fuses inside glass to produce magical decorations.

Love the gold crown and sprig of mistletoe. The decoration is made using free motion embroidery with hand embroidery embellishments. Definitely a special addition to the decoration box – particularly for anyone who loves the coast and Cornwall in particular.

I love Elizabeth Harbour wooden Christmas decorations. It’s hard to pick out just one to share here, but I do love this peg doll riding a toy horse…
Golden Retriever hand felted tree ornament

As a dog lover myself, these hand felted decorations are a great find for anyone of a similar disposition. Find huskies, poodles, corgis, spaniels and more here.
Handmade sea glass and wood Christmas robin decoration

What I love about these handmade Christmas decorations is that each one is different. The robins are made from pieces of sea glass, each one painted individually before being positioned on a branch hand painted on to a simple white wooden heart.

Embroidery kit advent calendar

This is a great new creative take on the advent calendar. Before December, you’ll embroider the calendar outline and then for each day in December you can take your pick of different outlines to embroider to make your calendar totally unique to you. The image shows last year’s kit – this year’s will obviously be updated to December 2025 not 2024!

There’s an understated beauty to these decorations that I love. Buy the set of 5 patterns on Etsy and make your own super-simple and very special decorations.
Make your own Christmas tree candles

I love this Christmas tree candle mould – you could make a whole forest of them to bring some festive twinkle to proceedings…
DIY mini embroidered decorations

This is a great pattern bundle to embroider a set of 6 festive hanging decorations including this cheery robin, a Christmas tree, wreath, snowman, snowflake and Christmas pudding. A really fun Christmas DIY project.
DIY embroidery initial decorations

This is a great idea – why not order initials for everyone in your family and make a decoration for each of them? The stickers are water soluble so they wash away once you’ve finished embroidering.
Preserved Eucapyptus and Dried Flower wreath kit

This lovely kit by The Danes in East Sussex contains everything you need to make this tasteful wreath to last throughout Christmas, winter and beyond. Combining preserved eucalyptus with dried flowers and seed heads in white and natural shades, it’s a lovely seasonal craft project or gift idea.
Tilda Scrap Angels Garland – free pattern
