Handmade Christmas cards we love
Sending a carefully chosen Christmas card, handmade with love, feels more important than ever this year. I’ve spent ages researching my own favourites to send, so I thought I’d share my findings with you in case they help you find something you like too.
In my book, if you’re going to go to the time and trouble of sending a card, it should be worth the effort. This is the time of year when many small and independent creatives and makers depend on us to buy their designs – so let’s support them. Because it’s so much nicer to give – and receive – a well-designed card that has been made with care isn’t it?

Snowy blackbird linocut print handmade Christmas cards
How beautiful is this handmade Christmas card design featuring a linocut print of a blackbird in the snow? The original design is carved out of linoleum or japanese vinyl, rolled up with ink and hand printed. I just love this combination of composition and colour. The cards come in packs of 3, and you can also buy a signed print of this design here. The card is blank for your own message – or you can ask to have it posted directly to someone for you with a hand-written message. The perfect way to send a very special card to someone you love, without having to head out to the post office yourself.

I love this design, taken from Helena Tyce’s original watercolour painting. Featuring little chalets, Christmas trees and the word Winter (perfect if you don’t want too overtly Christmassy a message), the cards are printed on sustainable board snd include a recycled brown kraft envelope. Snowdrop plantable Christmas cards
These beautiful Snowdrop Christmas cards are printed on very special paper stock, that contains marigold, larkspur and cornflower seeds. Once it’s time to take the card down after Christmas, it can be planted to grow into beautiful wild flowers.
Each card includes a ribbed brown recycled envelope free from animal based adhesives, and the packaging is made from corn starch and uses non toxic petro-chemical based adhesive tape.

I have loved Teresa Green’s printed textiles and cards for years now. These little rows of Christmas trees are so lovely don’t you think? Each card is hand printed on cream card using eco inks and includes a kraft brown envelope.
Rabbit Christmas cards by HAM, £3 for one or £10 for 4
Love the distinct and graphic designs of HAM cards. They have spent time carefully selecting the perfect matt textured stock to use for their luxury greeting cards – all of which are meticulously crafted by printing specialists in the north of England. As soon as they are off the press Jo and her team add a ribbed kraft envelope and cello bag, both of which are also made in the UK.

If you love a Robin Christmas card, I’m not sure you’ll find better than this one by photographer Eva Nemeth. Printed on beautifully textured paper and featuring Eva’s magical photograph, the cards come with a white envelope and recycled packaging.
