Save 10% on the most beautiful Mother’s Day flowers from The Real Flower Company

Mother’s Day can be a bittersweet time for those of us who no longer have our mums to buy for. I know all too well those double-edged emotions. The warm glow you feel when your own children do, or make, something for you with love, whilst feeling deep sadness because you no longer have your own mother to do the same for.

Memories flood back of bunches of flowers given, and received, with a kiss. Gift boxes of Blue Fern talc, bath cubes and rose-shaped soaps from Boots the Chemists in the 70s that I just couldn’t wait for Mum to unwrap (which had a fragrance not unlike fly killer I now realise). Soaps magically in the shape of blue roses! Bath cubes wrapped up in perfectly smooth and shiny gold foil paper. Talc, in a tin, with little holes in the top that you could arrange on your dressing table. And maybe apply liberally with some sort of Hollywood-inspired powder puff like Elizabeth Taylor, Grace Kelly or, at a push, Jane Seymour. She popped into my mind because of those flower-filled soft focus Le Jardin de Max Factor perfume adverts from the 80s where she is harvesting kilos of roses in full length off-the-shoulder chiffon evening gown).

Choose something with love

My mum always wore Dior perfume, and I am sure never actually used any of the Blue Fern Fly Killer toiletries I presented her with over the years. But I know that her joy at receiving these gifts from me was real. She knew I’d chosen something with love, even if it would, in all probability, leave you with a nasty dose of contact dermatitis if you were foolhardy enough to actually use the stuff. I realise I’ve gone off on a bit of a tangent, but my point is that still having a mum to make a fuss of on Mother’s Day is beyond precious.

I will still buy a lovely bunch of flowers for my mum on Mother’s Day, arrange them in her favourite antique jug and think of her every time I look at them.

When it comes to buying me flowers, my family know I love The Real Flower Company best. It’s a joyful thing when one of their stylish green cardboard boxes tied with olive green satin ribbon arrives at your door. Inside is always a totally beautiful arrangement of seasonal foliage, flowers and scented garden roses. All stems are individually hand picked, arranged by a team of creative florists at the RFC sustainable farm in Hampshire and delivered to most UK destinations the next day if you order by 4pm.

Choose from a wide range of colours and styles – you’re sure to find the perfect combination from the palest of pretty pastels to rich jewel and fresh spring colours. To give you a flavour, I’ve picked out a few of my favourites, including the Florist’s Choice bouquet (below). It is exactly what it sounds like – you let the creative florists at the RFC farm select for you from what’s in season to create a unique arrangement. I can spend way too long agonising over this kind of decision, so this option is perfect for me and I have never been disappointed.

The height of pale and pretty good taste, this is another beauty. White, cream and the palest blush scented roses combine exquisitely with seasonal flowers and herbs. Hard to beat for understated perfection.

I’m just going to share one more idea here and I’m struggling to decide which one. It’s between Spring Garden and Guiding Light. I’m drawn to the wild, seasonal loveliness of the Spring Garden bouquet, but I think it’s going to have to be Guiding Light because of the coral roses. They’re just too heavenly to resist.

Combining gold-standard carbon neutral scented roses and seasonal flowers in feel-good shades of coral, peach and pink, this bouquet is always very popular and is only available in limited numbers, so if it’s the one for you, make sure you order early.

To all of our mothers, whether they are still with us or much missed but never forgotten, these flowers are for you. Happy Mother’s Day X.
