In case you haven’t discovered Claire’s latest little frog creation, I thought it only fair to share it with you here! Introducing her adorable Frog knitting pattern and accompanying Froggie’s Sweater knitting pattern, both available to buy on Etsy as PDF pattern downloads. NB there’s now a Korean translation and printable version of this pattern too, available on Etsy. There’s also a super helpful tiktok – make video tutorial by Claire here:
Also check out another adorable pattern that includes the Frog, Toad and clothes (the sweetest dungarees/trousers, hat and toadstool that only take a small amount of yarn to make but are totally adorable). There’s also another cute deer sweater pattern if you feel like making Froggy a festive jumper too…
And check out this new youtube tutorial by Claire
which talks you through all the stages, including which needles to use (she used dps double point straight needles) but you could use circular needles if you prefer. You’ll notice there are two ways to knit the hind legs and/or front legs – with wires (or pipe cleaners) and without and with double pointed needles (the best way to I-cord) and with just single points if double-points are not available or if you just don’t like them! What size needles you choose to use partly depends on the yarn weight you go for. You can use any yarn you like – 4-ply/ fingering is good for small frogs but… anything goes – even whatever waste yarn you might have sitting about. Worsted weight yarn or DK weight yarn would make for a stockier toad or froggy. Match the needle size accordingly.
Watch as Claire knits the frog, in stockinette stitch, showing you the right side – and the reverse – as she goes and how to use a yarn needle to finish off the legs. Filling froggy is up to you but ground walnut shells can work really well in knitted animals, as can lavender buds, which also adds a soothing fragrance. A stitch marker can be helpful to keep track of where you’re up to.
