I’ve shared video tutorial ideas as well as links to learning the basic stitches if you’re a total beginner. Whether it’s cute crochet animals in general or something specific, like teddy bears, that you’re looking for, I hope you find just the right project. If you need help learning the basics of crochet there’s a super-helpful blog post here that will take you from absolute beginner onto your first amigurumi project. The Japanese art of knitting, often associated with amigurumi focuses on creating small, stuffed yarn creatures. These creations are often whimsical with adorable details, reflecting the kawaii (cute) aesthetic popular in Japan. I hope the crochet projects I’ve pulled together to share with you here tick those boxes!

What you’ll need
Check the beginning of each pattern for the specific recommendations, but in general, the kit and supplies you’ll need include:
stitch markers (a good thing to have in your crochet kit)
safety eyes (unless you’re using crochet eg for a baby)
yarn needle
magic ring (or magic circle or magic loop)
yarn (Best yarn? I always prefer cotton yarn, but acrylic yarn is an option too. Other yarn types include dk yarn, fuzzy yarn, worsted weight yarn, blanket yarn, light worsted weight… there are lots of different yarn weights but it’s partly down to personal preference and how able you are to adapt the different patterns.
I’ve shared so many different crochet animal patterns – hope there’s an easy pattern to suit you if you’re a beginner as well as something to inspire the experienced crocheter.
