They were my mum’s favourite flower, so growing them now feels like a precious connection. Especially when I pick some and arrange them in her beautiful old blue and gold jug just as she used to do with the sweet peas my dad grew for her every year.
There are some really handy tips for growing success from founder of The Real Flower Company Rosebie Morton over on the blog (link in bio). Rosebie has a whole farm dedicated to sweet peas near Chichester so she knows a thing or two about the subject!
Main thing I’ve picked up from her is to allow lots of depth for root growth at this stage and to make my own supportive wigwams from twiggy branches when the plants are really starting to go for it and need a bit of direction. This photo is making me yearn slightly.

Eeyore knitting pattern by Claire Garland: 10 to be won

I know how many of you already love Claire Garland’s patterns, so I thought you might enjoy a competition to win her utterly lovable Eeyore knitting pattern. He’s my own particular favourite from Claire’s Winnie the Pooh collection of patterns.

eeyore knitting pattern by claire garland aka dot pebbles knits winnie the pooh soft toy

We have 10 Eeyore knitting patterns to be won and entering couldn’t be easier so why don’t you have a go today? All you have to do to enter is post a comment at the bottom of this blog (scroll down for full details on how to enter) and we’ll pick the winning entries at the end of September. Good luck and happy knitting!

Eeyore is knitted flat on on two straight knitting needles but with minimal seaming and the pattern includes yarn recommendations and tips from Claire to make your Eeyore just like hers.

As a lifelong fan of the Winnie the Pooh books by AA Milne, I love that Claire’s Eeyore is modelled on the original EH Shepherd illustrations and not later cartoon versions of the characters.

If you can’t wait to get knitting and would just like to get hold of the Eeyore pattern now, it’s available to buy on Etsy as a PDF download here

My 90 year old mum has always loved Eeyore so I want to make this for her. I’ve bought some lovely cashmere yarn already 😍 Personally, I’m a big Disney Thumped fan & “rescue” Merrythought soft toy versions from eBay on a regular basis. My original mohair nightdress case, a Xmas present from the mid 60’sweet everywhere with me & is in poor condition. I have managed to “rescue” a couple of the largest Merrythought Thumpers that are over 3 feet tall.
My original present was a black poodle nightdress case- the Thumper was my mum’s present. A swap was very quickly made. My sister for a lying down brown pony. Interestingly, I have never seen the other 2 for sale.

I’d love to make Eeyore because he’s one of those characters that seems sad on the outside, but has this quiet charm that makes people feel comforted and understood. He reminds us that it’s okay to have off days and still be loved deeply by our friends.
I’d make him for myself—so whenever life feels gloomy, I could hug Eeyore and remember that even gray skies have their place, and they make the sunny days feel even brighter. 🌧️☀️

Well, I suppose it makes sense that I’d want an Eeyore knitting pattern… after all, Eeyore and I share a lot in common. A little gloomy at times, but quietly hopeful, steady, and always loyal. He may lose his tail now and then, but he never loses heart—and I like to think I’m stitched together the same way. If I win, I promise to knit Eeyore with all the care and patience he deserves (and maybe even give him a spare tail or two, just in case)

If I was lucky enough to win the gorgeous Eeyore pattern I would be able to help my friend Mel’s knitting journey progress by creating this for her wee grandie. The way Eeyore relaxes into a hold will no doubt be an absolute delight for her granddaughter. We will be able to make it using the yarn we produce on farm here at Rewa Rewa Station.

I would knit this wonderful little creature in memory of my sister Beth Ann who died in 1975. Beth collected stuffed animals, dozens and dozens of them until she died at 15 years of age. She loved all of them, but the delightful little Eeyore was her favorite. Our mother is now 99 years old, and next month it will be 50 years since her daughter and my sister Beth died. I knit for mom, especially shawls which she uses everyday. It would be heart-felt and cherished if I could knit Eeyore and present it to her and the rest of my family in memorial of Beth. Nothing says love more than something hand-knit.

When my second grandson was born, I traveled to see him as a brand new person. However, I had just seen Claire’s Rabbit pattern. The rabbit was all I could think of. My son and his wife gave me a gift card for the pattern, and the next day I left my new grandson to go to a yarn store in the next town. I want to knit my grandson an Eeyore to make up for my obsession with the rabbit when he was born.

In a corner of Hundred Acre Wood, Where the thistles grow as they always should, Eeyore sits with a sigh and a stare, A ball of grey yarn and a rocking chair.
His tail’s stitched on with a button and thread, But today he’s knitting
instead. “Not that it’ll help,” he mutters low, “As if warmth could change the status quo.”
Yet stitch by stitch, the needles click, A rhythm slow, a pattern thick. A toy of blues, of stormy skies, Of rainy days and lullabies.
Piglet stops by with cocoa in hand, And Pooh brings honey, just as planned. They sit beside him, not saying much, Just sharing silence, warmth, and such.
The toy grows, garland magic. A quiet triumph, soft and brave. Though Eeyore grumbles, deep inside, There’s comfort in the woolen tide.
So if you find your spirits low,
Just knit a row, then one more still— Even Eeyore finds peace in skill.

Please may I have to pattern to help Eeyore find his peace?

As a knitter with very little brain, and a melancholy view of the world, similar to Eeyore’s, this knitting pattern would mean more to me than a burst red balloon and an empty jar of honey meant to Eeyore himself.

As an avid knitter of many years it is needless to say that my only grandchild has been the lucky recipient of many a knitted wearable in her two short years. However I am yet to make her something she can enjoy, just because. Eeyore has been a proven lovable throughout the world and I have fond memories of Eeyore from my own childhood so he will be the perfect fit for my first knitted lovable, just because. Claire Garland has magically captured the true Eeyore as he appeared when I was a child some 50years ago and I would be blessed to be able to share him with my granddaughter.

I’m usually a tigger, bouncing from craft to craft, with so many ideas my head is bursting with creativity. I think a hand knitted Eeyore sitting with me in my craft room will make me focus on one (ish) thing at a time and not have so many unfinished projects. Perhaps my ‘bounce’ and his ‘gloom’ can meet in the middle to make a serene crafting space.

I am not contesting fir the pattern.
    I realize that
    a) it’s crazy how people are ready to make efforts for free stuff

    b) did I actually ever bought something from you? Yes! A workshop on Instructables with s free puppy pattern, and a couple of patterns. When I can, I definitely want to support you by buying a pattern once in a while. Or even a bundle!

    c) I don’t knit much though and my children and hubby already destroyed a few of my handmade items.

Since you are reading me (maybe) I take opportunity to heartfully thank you for the owe and the joy you spread all over the world. I congratulate I’m advance the 10 winners of this context 💖
Reading the comments of most, I’d feel sick to be picked, and if by any twist of destiny I would be picked, please pick again another post to give it away to someone that will feel they actually won something.

For me, I win if I buy from you, then knit your patterns and show to the world the result – like last time to a LYS owner. I want you to win. And others too. Be healthy, be happy.

Can you make a contest where people actually display their creation in a LYS vitrine?

I love that Eeyore is such a different character for children; he is quiet and often sad, but his friends love him and always include him. He’s a beautiful character with a lovcely message for children.

My last grandchild just turned 7 and so I told her I wanted her to be six forever and ever!
Would like to try and knit this.
Wonderful design and captures the essence of Eeyore. A drawing that came alive!

Thank you so much for this generous offer and a chance to win the lovely pattern! I’d like to knit Eeyore because I’m like him and have the same attitude to life – he’s one of my favourite characters. I think this pattern is the best incarnation of Eeyore. It’s the best Eeyore ever. Winnie-the-Pooh and his friends were my favourites when I was a child and I still love the world of Winnie-the-Pooh. I’d like to make this Eeyore for a child who is very different from modern children, who is very serious and responsible for his age, takes care of his grandmother, mother and little brother but he still plays with plush toys as he’s about 8 years old. And he wants to be a policeman. Thank you!

THIS is the one that would make me dig out my knitting needles …..they have lain unused for decades!
And who could possibly resist an Eeyore of their own ♥

It’s not too late to sow sweet peas - so easy to It’s not too late to sow sweet peas - so easy to grow and blissfully fragrant in the summer months.
I love this image of my friend Jo - we were trying I love this image of my friend Jo - we were trying out tiny living for a feature I was writing - this was taken on our way to indulge in a spot of forest bathing. To be totally honest, we were both a little sceptical beforehand. But we were only saying the other day how taken aback we both were by the amazing effect it had. I’m working on some new ideas around the subject - will keep you posted. X
I’m currently working on a redesign of the whole I’m currently working on a redesign of the whole site - which has meant lots of photo editing and reorganising so much content. What’s been lovely (despite the claw hand from so much keyboard work!) is revisiting work and becoming engrossed all over again. I thought I’d share a few of the things I’ve been (re) loving - with links in the bio to the old site for now, but not for long…! X
This image is from a feature about preserving garden roses. I’m going to give this a really good go this year, now I have a better idea what I’m doing. I know there’s nothing quite like a fragrant fresh rose in Summer but there’s a fragile beauty to dried and preserved flowers that I also love, don’t you?

Thank you so much to Sarah @floribundaroseflorists Thank you so much to Sarah @floribundaroseflorists for a wonderful wreath making workshop yesterday. Such a special and creative space to spend time. I loved making my wreath - I went for a mixture of greenery arranged quite randomly with red waxed fresh apples, dried hydrangea, dried flowers, poppy and nigella seed heads and a winter white velvet bow.
There were so many wonderful ingredients to choose from we were really spoiled for choice.
Sarah’s new studio is such a beautiful, creative space. Think fragrant botanical candles flickering everywhere, mulled wine and apple juice simmering on the stove and containers full of fragrant festive greenery, waxed fruit, dried flowers and oranges, pine cones, lichen covered branches and even tiny gold wax-dipped fresh crab apples.
Thank you for being so patient with my lengthy ribbon choice deliberations Sarah - and for bagging up a second choice option (dusky pink) to take home! X. #wreathmaking #wreath #wreathsofinstagram #sustainablewreaths #wreathdecor #christmaswreath #velvetribbon #christmasdecor #festiveflowers
