Make a bicycle wheel wreath – the perfect up-cycling project, particularly if you have outgrown bicycles sitting around. The idea is by Linda of inspiring craft website Life on Summerhill. We got chatting recently after she asked to share one of the ideas from my How to make embroidery hoop art with dried flowers blog post. I was more than happy to – and delighted to discover the treasure trove of ideas she has created on her blog.

This clever up-cycled bicycle wheel wreath idea really caught my eye. So I asked if Linda might like to return the favour and this time I’d share her idea with you. If you fancy having a go at making this, the full step by steps and info you need are all over on the Life on Summerhill website.

It’s a really simple project to do. Once you’ve painted the wheel base you’re using whichever colour you’d like it to be, it’s really just a case of deciding how to decorate it. Linda has made her bicycle wheel wreath using artificial flowers and painted baby pumpkins. I’d be tempted to have a go using fresh seasonal flowers too or maybe dried flowers for a more natural alternative.

To give you a sense of how simple a DIY craft project idea this is, I’m sharing a few images of some key steps. Starting with the wheel painted gold, and asymmetric pieces of eucalyptus attached as the base. Flowers are tied into position, along with a few berries and the beautiful little pumpkins. Love the idea of painting them here and there in a pretty coral colour to tie in with the flowers. It couldn’t be simpler to hang up – using a length of ribbon. I quite like the idea of making this by ripping a strip of fabric to create the length needed. Plain linen or Liberty lawns would work really well wouldn’t they?

I’ve put together a few ideas of flowers and materials I’d like to use for this project myself:
