what to crochet: wardrobe
Paulastrickt on Etsy is a great source of knitting and pattern ideas, each piece would make a great addition to your wardrobe. I love the stylish simplicity of her designs. My top three picks from her current pattern collection would be:
Reno short vest top
The RENO top is a simple, short-cut top and goes perfectly with summer high-waisted trousers and skirts.
It is crocheted in rows from top to bottom with double crochets, so the length can be adjusted individually if necessary. First the front part is crocheted. Then the back piece with the straps is crocheted directly to the front piece. Finally, the side seams are closed and the neck and armholes are bordered with single stitches.
Techniques used: double crochet, single crochet stitches, multi-stitch increase, sewing together. All techniques used are explained in the instructions.
Leah halter bra crop top
Such a pretty under layer for Summer and a relatively quick and easy project to get stuck into.
Emile bag pattern
The EMILE Bag is a classic basket bag – perfect as a beach bag or for shopping at the market.
The bag has an oval basic shape and is crocheted in rounds. First, the bottom of the bag is worked with single crochet stitches. Increases at regular intervals give the bottom its oval basic shape. Then the body is crocheted in a three-dimensional rib pattern with half double crochet stitches. It is worked in spiral rounds so that no ‘seam’ is created. Regular increases ensure that the bag becomes wider or trapezoidal towards the top. Finally, leather straps that serve as handles are sewn onto the bag.

There’s something so creative about the fact that with crochet you don’t even need to follow a specific pattern if you don’t want to. A lot of people use granny squares as their building blocks. The importance of using the right yarn
Across the crochet crowd, there are some differences in yarn weight terminology but the basic rule is that yarn weights start at 0 (the smallest) and ranges up to 7 (very large like wool roving). If you are unsure about a yarn’s weight, you can work this out using a yarn gauge tool. It’s a simple but very useful bit of kit that you wind your yarn around and count the number of wraps to work out the yarn weight.
Size 2 Sport Weight also known as fine or baby yarn) is commonly used for baby blankets and baby clothes.
Worsted Weight (size 4) also sometimes called 4-ply or medium weight is one of the most popular yarn weights for crocheters and the recommended size for garments, blankets, dishcloths, toys and more.
