John Arbon ethical yarns, knitted socks and knitting patterns
John Arbon Textiles & Fibre Harvest – British makers of yarns and fibres
We’re John and Juliet and we develop & make our yarns & tops at our specialist processing & spinning Mill, Fibre Harvest. It’s a haven of enthusiasm & creativity, snug in the heart of North Devon.
The new Mill arrival, Italian cone winder (Gino) has settled in splendidly, whilst Gillian the skeiner (one of our oldest machines at over 100 years of age) has had are-vamp & is running smoother than ever.
Our latest yarn & tops range, Devonia, a beautiful blend of Devon fibres in 14 deep, mottled, irresistible shades, proudly features on the front cover of our latest catalogue. And our KBN 4ply minis are welcomed into the fold. All 103 Knit By Numbers shades now available in baby 25g hanks. Perfect for colour-work.
Our socks are knitted with care and loved around the world. Polly Leonard, founder of Selvedge magazine, included John Arbon alpaca bed socks in her Christmas Wish List feature. Read here >>
The fabulous Mill team, led steadfastly by John, are Helena, Jack, Phil & Natasha; our Lynton shop & office, with Juliet at the helm, is run by Ginette, Judi & Natasha (again), whilst Frankie is our roving ambassador.
Exmoor Blueface Sheep
This is our local sheep – the Exmoor Blueface (a cross of the Exmoor Horn and Blueface Leicester).
These lovely sheep are farmed on our local Exmoor fields.
We use their fibre in our yarns… our Excelana and Exmoor Sock.
We also use it for some of the yarns we make to knit our socks with … our Exmoor Socks , Stanbury Walkers and Exmoor Country Hose.
And we have even named our Stanbury Walkers after our local Lynton farmer John Stanbury who farms these very sheep in this photo!
