Life-improving ethical homewares made in Britain by Aerende
Aerende is a lovingly sourced collection of handmade items for your home. It is also a social enterprise. All of our products are created in the UK by people facing social challenges. Produced in low-volume batches and designed to improve with age, each purchase directly supports our talented makers.
Our range will enhance your home, yes, but it also treads lightly on the world beyond your door. Hence our strapline of life-improving homewares. We unite heritage skills with environmentally sustainable materials and ethical business practices. Each limited-edition item shows our commitment to beauty, utility and integrity. Welcome to our world.
A bit about founder, Emily Mathieson
The company was founded in 2016 by Emily Mathieson, a former travel editor for The Guardian, Condé Nast Traveller and Red. Her passion for beautiful, useful, locally made homewares led her to question the lack of ptions in the ethical interiors sector. Her aim: to create a model for considerate, socially valuable shopping that doesn’t compromise on quality or style.
“Our hub remains a kitchen table in Hertfordshire. At Aerende we operate as a social enterprise in which all makers, and the organisations who represent them, are involved. Our tagline of ‘life-improving homewares’ reflects our commitment to sourcing and designing unique, limited-edition products that will bring joy, beauty and utility to our customers. As well as a sense of purpose, pride and revenue to our makers.”
