Fermoie Carskie cushion – fabric inspiration

A collection of hand drawn textural stripes inspired by a textile document inherited with Carskiey House.  Carskiey Collection is interpreted with bold evenly uneven spacing, interlacing colour, texture and light with a woven aesthetic.

From mixing natural colours and inspired studio drawing to traditional printing, we create beautiful fabrics in our own factory and hand make all of our cushions

About Fermoie linen

Linen is our single biggest raw material and our linen weavers work with the flax farmers all within a few hundred miles of our factory. Flax is one of the most sustainable raw materials in the world. During growth, the flax plant receives no additional irrigation, rainwater is sufficient. In comparison to other crops, far fewer pesticides and fertilisers are used. The fibres are separated from the stem during a natural process called dew retting. Better still there is no waste as all parts of the flax plant are used, for feed, soap, cosmetics, paper, paint and of course fabric which after use is fully biodegradable.

From highly pigmented paint to printing fine textiles. Fermoie was the natural progression for Farrow & Ball founders, Tom Helme and Martin Ephson – taking their deep expertise in colour and light to a new, more textural dimension.

There are almost as many ways to describe the subtle, tactile quality of Fermoie fabrics, as there are colourways in our bespoke collections, over 500 in fact.

Ephemeral. Abstract. Intriguing….. What makes Fermoie so unique is our design and printing technique. Layers of colour on our textured weaves shine through and interact with the prevailing light.
