Cat Turner is a British brand of effortless summer chic

Passionate about inspiring beautiful sunny escapes all year round, the Cat Turner brand offers a collection of effortlessly chic and supremely versatile summer dresses, perfect for both beach and city getaways. The dresses are timeless, designed to be easily worn from day to night and ethically made in London.
Added to my own extensive experience of managing brands, I am working with some of the best teams and suppliers in the UK and Europe. My patternmaker and studio manager studied at the London College of Fashion and has managed the West London Studio for nearly 20 years.
I source most of my fabrics from family firms in Spain with over 30 years’ heritage in fabric production.
I focus on natural fabrics, best suited to hot weather and am mindful of sustainability.

Ethical Fashion London

Each Cat Turner summer dress is proudly made in one of two ethical facilities in London – a studio in West London and a work space in East London.

Choosing to make our collections in London, on our home ground, means that:

~ We are bound by UK law which, as a basic measure, means more stringent regulations and checks than certain other countries around the world with regards to human rights and environmental practices.

~ We can foster a closer relationship with our highly skilled teams of garment creators, due to the proximity of the sites, and have greater ongoing visibility, able to just “pop in” to see how things are going at any time.

Sustainability 

We are keen to do what we can to minimise any harm to the environment.

This is work in progress and we are well aware that there is ongoing room for improvement, but here are several ways in which we are trying to be a little more mindful of sustainability issues:

~ We use quality fabrics from Europe and make high-end summer wear pieces in London, designed to last. This ensures we are not disposable fast fashion and minimises our carbon footprint.

~ All our fabrics have the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification. This relates to how the fabrics are processed (e.g. dyes and finishes) and means that textiles with this certification are free from substances harmful to health, as tested and certified by an internationally recognised institute.

~ We have started to use more environmentally friendly fabrics such as Tencel, and will look at opportunities to use more.

~ We are mindful of the marketing materials and packaging we use. We made a point of adapting our original business card design to work on an uncoated card, and our swing tag to work on an unlaminated card, to make them both recyclable. Our cardboard boxes, tissue paper and branded stationery are all recyclable.

Fabrics

I have scoured far and wide and touched thousands of fabrics to find exactly the right fabrics for my summer styles (and that is no exaggeration)…beautiful fabrics offering breathability as well as the right weight and drape to hang well and flatter the body.

Most of the fabrics are sourced from European companies with decades of heritage in fabric production. Most also have the Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification, which means that the textiles are free from substances harmful to health, as tested and certified by an internationally recognised institute.

100% COTTON

All our 100% cotton fabrics are wonderfully light and fresh but have enough weight to hang really well. Cotton allows the air to circulate more freely through the fabric making heat more bearable, whether that’s a dry or humid heat.

Sustainability: Cotton is a natural fibre and cotton fabrics are biodegradable.

COTTON BLEND CHAMBRAY

Our woven, cotton chambray fabric has a smooth feel to it, with a slight resemblance to the feel of linen. The 20% Polyester content means the summer dresses benefit from a little more crease resistance.

TENCEL

Tencel is a wonderful fabric that has a lovely cool, dry and soft feel as well as a beautiful drape. This might be news to you… but Tencel is a more breathable fabric than cotton.

Sustainability: Tencel is one of the most sustainable fabrics as it is very carefully manufactured from fibres derived from sustainable wood sources.

END OF ROLL FABRICS

End of roll means a fabric has been sourced from a factory or design house that has produced more fabric than it needs or is no longer running that pattern.  With an end of roll fabric you are getting a very limited edition dress (the unique combinatin of a Cat Turner design in a limited supply fabric).

Sustainability: Using end of roll fabrics is a sustainable way of optimising the final metres of a beautiful fabric which prevents it from ending in a landfill and saves the earth from further fabric production.
