It was in 1990 that Annie Sloan transformed the world of furniture painting with the creation of her own brand of decorative paint. Annie’s fine-art background and enthusiasm for decorative painting has inspired decorators over the last 30 years.

Annie’s Background

The invention of Annie Sloan Chalk Paint ® resulted from Annie’s need for a paint which could be used to achieve endless decorative effects – and quickly. Chalk Paint® satisfies that brief perfectly, as it can be applied to wood, glass, metal, brick and even laminate, left to dry, and then waxed within one day. This helped to accommodate for Annie’s busy lifestyle as a working mother to three boys.

Annie trained as a fine artist and turned to decorative work in the mid 1970s, whilst painting murals in houses as commissions. The Complete Book of Decorative Paint Techniques, by Annie is considered to be the industry bible on the subject. Unable to find the paints that she wished to work with, Annie developed Chalk Paint in 1990. In 2000, Annie set up a shop in Oxford to showcase her paints, run courses, and offer interior design services.
