  • Curious Rose hand makes a beautiful range of hot wheat bags, hot water bottle covers, hand warmers, proper soft toys and more. Caroline Gurtler started the company in 2014 after a lifetime of sewing, embroidery and teaching textiles. She is passionate about anything fabric, especially upcycling textile treasures, and anything to do with wool. And textile history. And gin, but we don’t mention that.

    Our ethos

At Curious Rose, we really enjoy all the quirky best bits of being British, and we would rather buy materials produced here, to help other British makers, and reduce the carbon footprint of our products.

    Our materials

We love natural materials, especially wool. Lambswool, merino, angora, cashmere, you name it, we will stroke it.  There is something about the feeling of it, as well as the miraculous way it takes dye and transforms into hot colours.

We are committed to using recycled materials to make our products, if at all possible.  We started with the idea of upcycling vintage blankets, and now regularly use hand-dyed pure wool blankets for our hot wheat bags.

We also use recycled wool and cashmere jumpers, rescued from a large charity warehouse, to help reduce the impact of consumer waste.

    Our workmanship

At Curious Rose we want to reach the highest standards of workmanship with our products.  Designer-makers across the country are upholding the values of craftsmanship and original design, and we want to stand firmly in this tradition.

Caroline’s family tree reveals textile workers going back several generations, and this feeling of continuing history is really important to her sense of self.  She can go on a bit sometimes.
