  • The Maker Place has a simple aim. We want to make it as easy and enjoyable as possible for you to discover the very best style-led homeware and unique gifts available from UK designer-makers. Were a marketplace but not as you know it! We hand pick all of the items we sell and focus on both style and substance. You’ll find beautiful pieces that are crafted with care. We hope you enjoy browsing our range of beautifully made, well designed, stylish homeware, furniture, art prints and gifts.

We believe that the pieces we bring into our homes and live with every day, should be functional and beautiful. By paying attention to the way they are made, make us feel good about buying them too. When design and craftsmanship go hand in hand, when you know the story of who made something, each time you use it, you remember that connection. We work closely with all of our makers to ensure that the materials they use and methods of production are thoughtful and sustainable. 99% of the pieces we select made entirely within the UK on an individual or small scale.

Were passionate champions of independent makers, and we strongly believe that it’s possible to buy beautifully crafted work that is both eco and style conscious. We select work based on both craftsmanship and design so that you can achieve a modern, thoughtful and stylish look using exceptionally made, luxurious, hand-crafted items.

SHARING OUR PASSION FOR STYLE, DESIGN + CRAFTSMANSHIP is not just about finding great products; we want to bring you the latest design news and inspiration, the inside-track on new makers and what inspires their work. The pieces we showcase fuse style, design and craftsmanship and so its only right that we cover all of these elements in our features throughout the site.

You can check-out our blog THE MAKER PRESS for style features and design news and THE MAKERS section for the stories behind our makers work.

We launched The Maker Place in April 2016 with a vision to create a new type of marketplace; a makerplace. Ive always liked the idea of marketplaces where small designers can sell and connect directly with customers, and receive a larger share than when selling through traditional retailers, but I struggled to find a marketplace that sold what I was looking for; beautifully crafted, UK-made pieces, where it was easy to find high-quality stylish pieces without spending too long searching through thousands of products.

From initial idea to what you see today, launching the site has been a whirlwind of a journey; starting with talking to makers to make sure that what we created would work well for them, then moving to building and launching the site and now continuing to add new makers and grow awareness about what were doing. And we know it’s still early days. With so much support and such a lovely reaction to what were doing, were very excited for the future of The Maker Place, so thank you very much for taking the time to read our story and for your interest in us and our makers! Without the support of everyone who takes an interest and our lovely customers, we wouldnt be able to do what we do and help new makers find a platform to reach new audiences.

I hope you enjoy browsing some of the beautifully made pieces were lucky enough to showcase and discover some new makers. Wed love to hear from you and stay in touch via social media, so please do Contact Us if you have a query or would just like to say hi and you can find us on social media via the links below!
