John Green is an award winning designer, designing furniture and lifestyle products for manufacture. John’s approach is simple to create innovative and functional designs that people cant resist. On top of developing products for his own brand John works as a freelance designer, collaborating with other designers and manufacturers.
John has a hands on approach to design, developing ideas through working prototypes in his studio and workshop in York, UK.
Where and how are your products made?
All of my products begin their life in my studio here in the UK. I always self manufacture the first batch of a new design to test it’s popularity and to iron out any creases. Once I know that a product is selling, I outsource manufacture. Where possible I keep manufacture in the UK, but in order to achieve the best quality the manufacture of some products has had to move into Europe.
Why do you do what you do?
Because I enjoy shaping the way that I live.
Favourite piece (and why)?
My favourite piece is Embrace, it just functions so well.
What inspires you?
Every design I do is my solution to a problem. So I guess I could say; problems inspire me.
What’s special about your designs?
I try my best when developing new products, to strip out all of the unnecessary details. Doing this not only helps to create a more aesthetically pleasing product, but it helps to simplify the manufacturing process, meaning that the end product is more affordable.
