Emma Mason British Prints specialises in original prints by printmakers working in Britain from the 1950s to the present day and is run by husband and wife, Emma and Richard Mason.
Our story began with Emma meeting printmaker, Robert Tavener. It was soon after we moved from London to Eastbourne in 2002 with our two young children. Having discovered Tavener lived locally, Emma contacted him to ask about buying a Sussex Boats and Net linocut for Richard’s birthday. Emma and Tavener found that they had much in common and a friendship began. In the following few years, before Tavener’s death, Emma helped him organise his studio and archive, spanning nearly 50 years of printmaking.
The inspiration for setting up the gallery came from Robert Tavener. His work and the conversations Emma had with Robert about the craft of printmaking. Over the years the business has grown and today we represent over 60 printmakers. Our gallery is in Eastbourne, a short walk from the seafront. We’re in one of the town’s oldest terraces. Cornfield Terrace, so named because it once stood in a cornfield which ran down to the sea.
