Hairy Jayne natural, ethical haircare handmade in the UK.
Natural and biodegradable
Hairy Jayne will always work towards a more positive environmental impact. Almost all of the ingredients that we use are carefully selected so that the finished products are highly biodegradable. Meaning they are capable of decomposing back into natural elements. Almost all of the packaging that we use is widely recyclable and we want to further reduce plastic waste by offering biodegradable refill options.
All Hairy Jayne products have been certified by the Vegan Society. They have double-checked that no animal-derived ingredients are in any of the products, no animals were used in making the ingredients and that we certainly do not do any animal testing. Ensuring that all of the products are 100% cruelty free.
The products are not factory made. They are always handmade, with love, by Hairy Jayne. You can rest assured that no ‘harmful chemicals’ are used by us.
Hairy Jayne is not owned by a bigger corporation, she’s as free as a bird! We are a small company and we’re very open to listening to any ideas or thoughts you may have. We aim to give you the best in customer service, always.
Hairy Jayne will never tell you to aspire to being *more* anything (more sexy, more groomed, more trendy). Because being yourself is the best! You are enough. There’s no-one else like you and the world would be *super* boring if we were all the same. We just want you and your hair to feel good.
Hairy Jayne isn’t actually hairy! (Although she does have very thick hair).
Hairy Jayne makes hair care products that help women take better care of their dry hair – with a choice of divine fragrances. The products are made from the best moisturising ingredients available. Naturally derived, vegan ingredients that cause the least harm to us on our skin, and the least harm to our world when they end up down the plug. Sulfates and parabens are out, and plant oils and fragrant essential oils are definitely in. All of the products have been registered with the Vegan Society and are 100% cruelty free.
Once upon a time Jayne was a graphic designer, having spent a large chunk of her childhood colouring-in. After finding herself in the world of advertising, she realised it wasn’t where she wanted to be.
Following in the footsteps of her grandmother, she started to train as a hairdresser. (She still has her grandmother’s scissors, dated 1942.)
Starting at Trevor Sorbie, she worked for Aveda and the award winning Brooks & Brooks in London. She now works totally independently. Over the years, Jayne has chatted with many women about their hair and how they care for it. She listens to the problems they have, and about the funny relationship they have with the stuff that grows out of their heads.
The lightbulb moment
On holiday in Morocco, she bought some argan oil and began to experiment with it, mixing it with essential oils and using it to nourish her hair. These little experiments sparked a curiosity that led her to taking some courses in natural product making. And then came the light-bulb moment. She could make her own natural hair care products! And so the obsession began.
Jayne has very thick, weirdly wavy hair that takes ages to blow-dry and style. Washing it is always a pain. So she started making hair perfume that smelt fresh, made her hair shiny again and protected it from hair straighteners.
Having listened to all those women talking about their hair, the biggest problem seemed to be that it felt dry. The Hairy Jayne range is very simple and very moisturising. There’s a sulfate free shampoo and three conditioners of varying strengths. A tonic oil for the scalp to keep it healthy and nourished. And hair perfume in three delicious fragrances for those days when washing your hair just isn’t going to happen, and it needs a little freshness and shine.
Please feel free to email Jayne at any time for hair care advice, she’s happy to help!
