  • At Cosy Mama we hand make and felt baby booties as well as felt accessories for grown-ups. Designer maker Philippa Karpas is the founder behind the business. The aim is to harness wool’s natural biodegradable and breathable qualities in a contemporary way.

Cosy Mama has an eco-friendly ethos and uses UK sourced materials and supports small-scale suppliers where possible. Our 100% organic products are made with organic grey British Shetland wool that we hand-dye with natural extracts.

    Organic wool from Shetland sheep

I take time and care to source British wool in subtle shades to suit our designs. Our organic wool comes from a flock of Shetland sheep on a small-holding in Pembrokeshire. And a local mill prepares it. So a very low carbon footprint!

The current collections are all handmade using traditional wet felting and needle felting techniques. The booties are available in three sizes and are completely seamless. Our purses pouches and tablet sleeves fit a variety of devices and are multi-purpose. Felting each item by hand with attention to detail ensures high quality products.

    Wet felting and needle felting

Wet felting is the process of getting wool fibres to mesh together by using friction and hot soapy water. Cosy Mama uses pure soap made from unrefined olive oil. It’s free from animal testing, artificial colours and perfumes and 100% biodegradable. Needle felting, as the term sounds, is when a felting needle is used to push wool fibres into other felted material. This causes the fibres to bind together.

Cosy Mama products are made-to-order and we lovingly bring each item to life.
