Our story

From Britain with Love director, Laura Dunkley was a national magazine journalist for 15 years, including time spent as Features Editor, Commisioning Editor, Travel Editor and Writer on a range of national titles including Woman & Home, Woman, Woman's Realm, Food Illustrated,The Garden, Best and Bella. She also spent two years as editor of the M&S Magazine at Redwood Publishing, where she gained a wealth of media and creative experience as well as a contacts book to die for.

'After I took a break to start my family, I saw the need for a beautiful and select marketplace for British made goods,' she says. 'So I launched my first ecommerce website, Lasso the Moon, in 2008 at the Country Living Christmas Fair in London to a fantastic response. We were selected as Show Highlight by the editor and received huge support from the press and media from day one including a TV interview for BBC TV London news.'

Lasso the Moon grew steadily, despite the recession, to a point where a new - and bigger - website was needed.

'I started wondering about developing the site into new areas,' says Laura.  'It was at this stage that I came across the original From Britain with Love directory site which had lots of great content. I decided to make contact with it's founder, Nicky Sherwood, and just a year later, we launced a newly branded, totally rebuilt website, combining shop, directory and magazine which would really allow us to powerfully promote the businesses and individual makers we feature. We'd spent a wonderful time photographing on location to create the new look and feel, worked with the design agency I'd collaborated with on Lasso the Moon to create a new logo and branding, and spent many months finding exactly the right developers to deliver the site we wanted. It was incredibly hard work, but we were thrilled with how it all came together.'

Everything was going to plan until, out of the blue, Nicky was diagnosed with breast cancer at the end of 2014 and underwent treatment. Thankfully Nicky has made a fantastic recovery, but has decided not to continue with the business, so Laura has taken over as sole director, supported with lots of creative input from our fantastic FBWL team.
