We love… The Little Shoe Maker baby shoes

Trained both in the footwear industry and as an artist, Kevin Rowley is the creator of The Little Shoe Maker range of exquisite handmade shoes for babies and toddlers. Stocked in Piccadilly’s Fortnum & Mason as well as in the From Britain with Love Shop, these shoes make very special new baby or christening gifts and are works of art to be treasured long after they have been outgrown.

A reputable London cobbler for many years, as well as an artist and lecturer in Fine Art, Kevin was inspired to set up The Little Shoe Maker by the birth of his daughter.

‘There was a lack of quality handmade British baby shoes available,’ says Kevin. ‘So I decided to make my own. I set out to create a range of shoes where every single pair of shoes, stitch by stitch, would be entirely made by hand using the best British suppliers at every stage.’

We love that Kevin uses the last remaining shoe last manufacturer in Britain as well as leather from a Devon tannery that have been applying the same traditional methods for generations.

‘My collection is designed using exquisite leathers and suedes, allowing little feet to breathe. Nothing synthetic is ever involved, in process or product. I also individually screen print the tissue paper and packaging we use in my studio in Sussex.’

Combining Kevin’s art, craftsmanship and footwear knowledge, his shoes are produced in only small sizes, remaining after as art objects that can be framed or displayed.

‘I believe my shoes make a personal gift with an emotional attachment that evolves over time,’ says Kevin.
