About us...

Brora is one of Britain’s best-loved and most successful modern cashmere brands – and so much more. It has grown over the past two years into a fully-fledged fashion label with its own distinctive viewpoint - wearable, subtle but highly individual, and mainly British-made.

Cashmere is still at its heart but now over 50 per cent of its sales come from all the lovely items that founder Victoria Stapleton and her design team create to build a complete wardrobe around those beautiful knits. From tailored jackets in the finest fabrics to little tweed skirts, flattering, hip-hugging trousers, glorious printed silk dresses and even accessories such as shoes, Brora remains true to its quirky, slightly vintage-inspired self, while moving on each season with the turn of fashion’s wheel.

The idea of beautiful British clothes, and especially Scottish tweeds and cashmere, goes back to the beginning in 1993, when Victoria - who was brought up in the Borders, the home of Scottish cashmere and where her father then had a smoked salmon business - started her mail-order firm using fabrics from her family’s mill, Hunters of Brora in Sutherland, and Borders cashmere. Sadly, the mill closed but the well-priced, high-quality cashmeres in muted yet colourful natural shades inspired by the complex colours in the tweeds went from strength to strength and Victoria was soon able to open her first shop, on London’s Kings Road.

Brora now has nine stores, including London shopping hotspots like Notting Hill and Marylebone High Street, and carefully-chosen locations round the country – Leeds, Oxford, Guildford and now Edinburgh, whilst the search continues for other key British cities. A thriving website complementing the mail-order means that the direct sales business is growing rapidly, and overall turnover is now in excess of £13 million a year.

Brora’s inimitable mix of style and individuality, which women can so easily make their own, appeals to a huge age range, while the addition of childrenswear and baby gifts make it a genuine one-stop shopping destination, The roll-call of celebrity fans runs from Kate Moss, Gwyneth Paltrow and Elle Macpherson to Felicity Kendall, Jane Birkin and Samantha Cameron. But it’s not just such stylish women of all ages who give Brora their seal of approval - it receives business plaudits too and was recently the subject of a film in The Scotsman Online’s One to Watch series. A highly successful and genuinely British fashion asset.
