Where is it?

Camber Sands is located in '1066 Country' on the the East Sussex coast. The award-winning beach boasts a two-and-a-half mile stretch of golden sands enclosed by picturesque dunes, and is only two hours drive from London.

Why should I go there?

For the unspoilt beauty of the beach as well as its sheer size - at low tide the sea can be as much as half a mile from the dunes which makes it a popular location for horse-riding and kite-buggying (pictured). The clean and shallow water also makes it ideal for children, and it has been named one of the best places in the UK for beachcombing, so who knows what treasures you might find as you search the beach!

Will I find interesting local products to buy?

Camber Sands is just a few miles from the ancient Cinque Port of Rye, a maritime maze of steep cobbled streets flanked by Georgian and Tudor façades. With a great selection of restaurants and atmospheric inns, you can sample local delights such as Romney Marsh lamb and freshly caught fish from Rye's very own fishing fleet. For art lovers, I'd recommend a visit to the Clive Sawyer Gallery in Rye (pictured) where you'll find innovative photographic prints on canvas, aluminium and acrylic panels.

Where can I eat locally sourced food?

The area has many fantastic restaurants, but our favorites have to be The Place at the Beach in Camber Sands (pictured) for their 'must have' fish & chips and sunday roast, and Webbe's at The Fish Cafe in Rye which serves amazing dishes using locally caught ingredients. Favourite pubs include The George Inn on Rye High Street, a characterful pub which serves wonderful Romney Marsh lamb burgers, while The Ship Inn is a dog-friendly pub that is quaint and a bit quirky, where you can relax and read the papers and enjoy great homemade food. Foodies should be sure to visit from16th to 24th October to exeprience Taste of Rye, a celebration of local produce and a showcase for our local restaurants.

Can I stay somewhere with a bit of character?

At Beside The Sea holidays, we offer a selection of contemporary holiday cottages on the 'fisherman's village style' White Sand development, located just a few minutes walk from the glorious beach at Camber Sands.

Our luxury cottages are cosy and welcoming and include all of the 'home away from home' extras that you would expect, such as hotel-quality bedlinen, comfy mattresses, fluffy dressing gowns, hairdryers and spa toiletries.

On arrival, a welcome pack awaits so you can make a cup of tea or have a glass of wine and settle in as soon as possible. What should I see, do or visit while I’m there?

Camber Sands is the perfect year round holiday destination and there really is something for everyone. History buffs should pay a visit to nearby Bodiam (pictured), Herstmonceaux, Pevensey, Hastings or Camber Castles, while green-fingered types will will appreciate the gardens at Great Dixter, Batemans and Merriments, which will undoubtedly provide inspiration back home. Adrenaline junkies can have a go at kitesurfing, windsurfing and sailing, or in the winter months blast along the beach on a kite-buggy. While wine lovers will enjoy the local vineyards; Chapel Down in Tenterden and Sedlescombe Organic Vineyard near Battle, where you can taste award-winning English wines - you may be sursprised what great wine this country can produce!

When is the best time of year to go?

We can honestly say that each season offers something wonderful to see or do around Camber Sands. Early in the year you can enjoy bracing strolls along the almost deserted beach, and visit The Scallop Festival in Rye in February. Come spring and summer this part of the country can boast the most hours of summer sun in the UK, and you can experience Rye in Bloom where the town's businesses all compete for the best floral display.

Autumn is a magical time with the leaves turning to shades of crimson, gold and orange, reflecting the fiery sunsets over the deserted beaches. Next comes bonfire night which is widely celebrated in this area, with events throughout October and November featuring flaming torchlight processions, marching bands and firework displays. As the nights start to draw in, the area becomes a winter wonderland with a Christmas Festival procession escorting Santa and his horse-drawn carriage into town, followed by the lighting of the Christmas tree and a spectacular firework display. During the winter months, the sandy dunes make for a bracing and refreshing walk and if you're lucky enough to be there when it snows, you might even get to build a snowman on the beach!

With so much to do throughout the year, Camber Sands is the perfect getaway and we are delighted to offer FromBritainWithLove.com readers an exclusive 10% discount on our autumn and winter breaks. We hope to see you soon!
