After working for clients such as Alexander McQueen, Amelia's Magazine and J&P London, Alice Nyong started NKOYO in October 2011, with the aim of combining the disciplines of fashion, illustration and fine art, to create pieces of wearable, fun and colourful art.
Nkoyo is Alice's middle name. It's translation is 'Beautiful One' in Ibibio language; native to Southern Nigeria; where Nyong's father is from. Nyong takes influence from both her Nigerian heritage from her father's side and British from her mother's to create an aesthetic that is a boiling pot of ideas.
The scarves are 100% Silk habotai, made exclusively in Britain, from Alice's intricate drawings and paintings. She also makes one-off drawings, and hand screen-printed tote bags.
"The 100% silk pieces in NKOYO are aimed to be objects of beauty, with the first collection inspired by the base elements that make up the earth. "
