About us...

Handford Wines was started by James Handford MW in 1989 and celebrates its 21th anniversary in 2010.

Handford Wines has always tried to champion the small artisanal wine producer, offering wines of distinction and character, often shipped direct from the wineries. Where on occasion we offer larger producers’ wines, these are always benchmark examples, world leaders in their own right, often produced from small single estates or single vineyards of exceptional terroir.

Handford Wines is also currently one of the only small UK independent merchants to boast two home grown Masters of Wine, providing knowledge and expertise that has helped reinforce Handford Wines position as one of the leading specialist independent merchants in the UK.

Handford Wines offers a long list of accompanying services to make it a truly versatile and customer orientated retailer. These services include offering regular consumer wine tastings, wedding wine lists, a god parent gift service, christening gifts, party catering, glass hire, regular tutored tastings (recently described by Jancis Robinson MW OBE in the Financial Times as “one of the most successful in London”), a Handford Wine School presented by a Master of Wine, cellar planning, En-primeur, fine wine investment portfolio management, wine storage under bond and duty paid, a corporate gift service, and importantly a nationwide UK delivery service.
