We are beyond excited to announce that we’ve been shortlisted for the Website of The Year Awards by The Good Web Guide! We’re one of the final 24 websites up for the award which has been judged by a panel of industry experts including perfumer Jo Malone, who will be announcing the winner at the awards reception in London next month.

Great British Christmas

I was delighted to be asked to comment for a great article in The Independent yesterday, all about buying British made gifts this Christmas. I pointed out that what started with ‘food miles’ is now rippling out to other product areas, as people shun mass-produced imported products and instead choose quality products which have been ethically produced and made to last – the heirlooms of the future. The September issue of Woman & Home magazine has a fantastic six page feature all about learning new creative skills (a subject close to our heart!) and we got a special mention as a great place to find out about courses run by talented British designers and makers.

The feature also highlighted many of the course providers listed in our Directory, including (clockwise from top right) The Make Lounge where we recently tried out candlemaking, Claire Aristides Jewellery School where we learnt to make a chunky charm bracelet, The Workshop by Sally Bourne Interiors where we’ll be making Christmas decorations, and Hugh Dunford Wood in Dorset who taught us to make beautiful hand block-printed wallpaper earlier this year. This evening I was flicking through the latest issue of Country Homes & Interiors magazine and what should I come across but a lovely little piece about us! I’ve also spotted many of the small businesses in our directory appearing on the shopping pages of magazines recently which is always a joy to see. It’s great to see the press nurturing and supporting home grown talent and not just focusing on the big brands. Press coverage is so important for small businesses who don’t have huge marketing budgets, and we’re always happy to help whenever we can.

We’ve been thrilled by all of the wonderful press coverage we’ve been getting recently, and this month we were delighted to be featured in Homes & Gardens magazine. They said… “If supporting local businesses and shopping more sustainably is high on your agenda, you’ll love this new online directory showcasing Britain’s most talented designers and craftspeople”. The feature included a beautiful English bone china Butterfly Teapot by ceramicist Polly George, whose work you can find out more about in our Meet The Maker interview.

We were beside ourselves with excitement this month to see a whole page dedicated to FromBritainWithLove.com in the very fabulous and totally inspiring Sew Hip, the UK’s No1 sewing magazine!

Editor Alice Blackledge featured three fantastic products from some of the talented textiles businesses in our online directory: a handmade Cupcake Doorstop from By Alex (£35.00), Linen Heart Cushions from Rosablue (£20.00) and a ‘Love’ Egg Cosy by Charlotte Macey (£6.00).
