Design a Journal Competition

Wednesday 26 May 2010

A little while ago I received a lovely gift… the clever people at The Fabric Press in Cheltenham sent me this funky fabric covered journal featuring our very own FromBritainWithLove heart logo, in order to demonstrate how they can print bespoke designs onto a range of textile products using the latest digital printing technology.

Now The Fabric Press are offering you the chance to see your very own design printed onto cotton and made into a high quality 80 page journal.

All you have to do is email your design to journal@frombritainwithlove.com by 30th June. We’ll pick the winning design and The Fabric Press will make it up into a beautiful fabric covered journal, before sending it off to the lucky winner. We’ll also feature the winning design here on our blog.

You’ll find a template for the journal at http://www.thefabricpress.com/journal.htm (just remember to email your design to us and don’t upload it via The Fabric Press website otherwise they’ll think it’s an order and not a competition entry). Good luck!

Summer Breezes

Thursday 20 May 2010

A little while ago I mentioned that Pure Light Candles were working on a brand new fragrance for Summer. Well, now it’s here and their new English Peppermint and Lemon Scented Candle is heavenly.

Like all of Pure Light’s candles it’s made using only 100% natural ingredients: a hand-blended combination of pure essential oils and plant-based soy wax, and even the wick is made from natural unbleached cotton. This new fragrance combines Mitcham peppermint, zesty lemon and a hint of cooling eucalyptus. Perfect for outdoor entertaining this summer, this refreshing blend will not only bring a breath of fresh air to your home or garden, but it can also help to keep bugs away – naturally.

More Press…

Monday 17 May 2010

We’ve been thrilled by all of the wonderful press coverage we’ve been getting recently, and this month we were delighted to be featured in Homes & Gardens magazine. They said… “If supporting local businesses and shopping more sustainably is high on your agenda, you’ll love this new online directory showcasing Britain’s most talented designers and craftspeople”. The feature included a beautiful English bone china Butterfly Teapot by ceramicist Polly George, whose work you can find out more about in our Meet The Maker interview.

Surf’s Up!

Monday 3 May 2010

I’ve been meaning to post about The Original Surfboard Company ever since I met up with founder Sally Parkin when we were down in Cornwall at Christmas. But somehow it just didn’t seem right to be writing about surfboards when there was snow on the ground. Not that a smattering of snow would stop Sally, who was heading off to the beach with her hardy family for their New Year’s Day surf party, just as they do every year.

As we strolled along Porthcothan Beach, Sally explained that these classic wooden boards are based on the original British sport of surf-riding, where people surfed the Atlantic rollers lying down on thin, flat wooden surfboards. Not only is this technique easier to learn than stand-up surfing, but it’s also suitable for all ages – so whether you’re seven or seventy you can hop onto one of these fabulous retro styled boards and keep fit in style!

Of course I couldn’t leave empty handed and I just had to buy one of her dinky child sized boards, here being modelled by my three year old son Sam. By the look of glee on his face, I fear it’s only a matter of time before mummy will have to get her feet wet too!

The Original Surfboard Company’s classic wooden surfboards are designed in Cornwall and handmade in Devon. Prices start from just £29.00 and you can buy online at www.originalsurfboards.co.uk.
